Overview

The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Barbering is a technical level qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed men’s hairdresser. This qualification is based on barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading barbering association (British Barbering Association – BBA) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a senior men’s hairdresser. Learners should hold a Level 2 qualification in barbering prior to undertaking this qualification.

Course structure:

We teach you a variety of haircuts using both scissors and clippers. You will be introduced to all tools of the trade, how to properly hold each and to use them. You will then learn to section the hair on the head, and you will practice techniques on a mannequin head. You will practice these techniques hands-on, and progress onto real clients.

With each service you have our tutor at your side giving direct feedback and support. We also use tutor demonstrations to give you the opportunity to watch the Barber and ask questions throughout the service. You next progress to focusing on refining and finishing techniques. Here we teach y drying, styling, and finishing techniques.  throughout your course you will be assessed on your haircuts to be completed to standards sufficient to earn your Level 2 qualification

NGS of barbering VTCT Level 2 & 3 Certificates & Diploma in Barbering is an internationally recognised qualification which helps you find work not just in Ireland but also abroad. NGS of barbering courses cannot be failed, as long as you put in the time and effort in, you will achieve it.

We provide support to help you find a job. We are here to help you not only learn the skills but to succeed in employment. This involves helping you build a portfolio of your cuts. After the course, our students go on to getting jobs at barbershops and are doing well.

Whilst this qualification’s primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a senior men’s hairdresser, learners may choose to develop their skills base further by undertaking advanced specialist qualifications at Level 4, including:

What could this qualification lead to?

Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Barber (SRB) with The Hairdressing Council.

Over the duration of 9 Months  we guide you so that you graduate with confidence in  cutting men’s  hair. We teach the 12 steps to barbering & 10 steps on facial hair. The main topics covered include health & safety client consultation, scissor cuts, skin fading, facial hair, beard trimming.

Our school offers hands-on practical training. This means you won’t be spending all your time in books studying theory.

Our tutors will be at your side at all times to supervise, build confidence, progress your skill level and deliver exceptional results.  We teach students of all ages and both genders.

Why is this qualification suitable?

This qualification forms part of a suite of barbering qualifications. At 431 – 493 guided learning hours (GLH), this qualification is larger than the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Barbering Studies. Whilst both qualifications qualify learners to become senior men’s hairdressers, this qualification in Barbering requires learners to achieve more units and develop a greater breadth of technical skills.

Hence, this qualification is most suitable for learners who wish to focus the majority of their Study Programme on men’s hairdressing. In contrast, the Barbering Studies qualification is more suited to learners who wish to undertake a Level 3 barbering qualification alongside other smaller qualifications.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification has been specifically designed for the 16+ years, builds on existing knowledge and understanding of barbering and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a senior men’s hairdresser. Learners will have their barbering skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as an advanced men’s hairdresser including: health and safety; client consultation; advanced cutting and; selling products and services to clients. These units are all mandatory.

Learners will further develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: hair colour correction; specialist scalp services and treatments; perming and colouring – the full list of optional units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book (RoA) (specification). This qualification’s structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a senior men’s hairdresser.
